Haute Route Charity Challenge
B4H Tokyo is proud to help coordinate the Haute Route Charity Stage with sponsorship by GS Astuto and many individual donors and sponsors. We have chosen The Tyler Foundation as the recipient of donations from this event and will work hard to raise awareness and funds for this amazing program which reaches children with cancer in Japan directly by providing support, counseling and medical care and assistance. It has been a crazy year in Japan. The Tohoku Earthquake and resulting destruction saw Japan in a state of panic, then ultimately resolve and rebuilding. Since many of us had volunteered for various support and service programs, B4H was left aside for awhile as we focused our attention to help family, neighbors and friends in need. Now that things have settled a bit and we can regroup, we’ve ‘rebooted’ B4H and taken on a new spirit of renewal and services based on supporting bicycle related projects that support humanitarian efforts. Our application has been approved by the Tokyo government and the Ministry of Justice and Chari-de-Charity (Bicycle for Humanity — Tokyo) is now a registered NPO in Japan! Thanks to everyone who helped out in making this happen. Now we can dedicate ourselves to tasks of raising funds and shipping our first container of bicycles to BEN in South Africa. In the middle of September, we submitted our application to become a Tokyo-based registered NPO. The approval process will take about 3 months. This was an important step towards our goal of providing mobility opportunities for people in South Africa and other economically less developed countries.
