Bicycles-for-Humanity Tokyo (B4H-Tokyo) is a Registered Non-profit 0rganization based in Japan. Our mission is to collect secondhand and unused bicycles and distribute them to selected health care workers, families and individuals in developing countries. This is part of global efforts to reduce poverty and empower people by improving their mobility.
At present, we have formed a core organizational team and are awaiting official NPO certification. In June, 2010, we decided on the Japanese name for the organization – チャリでチャリティ (Chari de Charity). Chari is a colloquial term in Japanese for bicycle. We are now working on the logistics of collecting and shipping our first container of bicycles to Bicycles Empowerment Network (BEN) in Cape Town, South Africa. We are also starting to plan more fun fundraising events. The momentum is growing! Please join us.

NEWS:
- Our application has been approved by the Tokyo government and the Ministry of Justice and Chari-de-Charity (Bicycle for Humanity — Tokyo) is now a registered NPO in Japan! Thanks to everyone who helped out in making this happen. Now we can dedicate ourselves to the tasks of raising funds and shipping our first container of bicycles to BEN in South Africa.
- In the middle of September, we submitted our application to become a Tokyo-based certified NPO. The approval process will take about 3.5 months. This was an important step towards our goal of providing mobility opportunities for people in South Africa and other economically less developed countries.
